Britische Regierung erwägt Ampelkennzeichnung

London berät über neue Nährwertangaben: Eine farbliche Kennzeichnung soll vor zu salzigen, zu süßen und zu fettigen Produkten warnen.

In ihrem heute veröffentlichten Public Health White Paper „Choosing Health“ gibt die britische Regierung eine verbindliche Nährwertkennzeichnung als klares Ziel aus: „We will press vigorously for progress before and during the UK presidency of the EU in 2005 to simplify nutrition labelling and make it mandatory on packaged foods. […]The Government will work with the food industry to develop the signposting approach further on the completion of FSA consumer research.

In der britischen Presse geht man davon aus, dass die Regierung eine Ampelkennzeichnung erwägt. Der Guardian etwa schreibt „It is expected to ban advertising of junk food to children, and introduce much clearer guidance – via a traffic light colour scheme – to warn consumers of foods with too much salt, sugar and fat.
