Our Work

foodwatch fights for safe, healthy and affordable food for all people. By conducting research, exposing scandals, mobilising consumers and lobbying governments, foodwatch provides a counterweight to the power of the food industry. Here are some examples of our working fields:

Transparency and food safety

Although European food legislation provides explicitly for the protection of human health through the prevention of health hazards, fraud and deception, this policy has not been translated into legal practice.

Free trade agreements

Free trade agreements like CETA (Canada/EU) and TTIP (US/EU) are part of a “new generation” of trade deals that focus on the elimination of “non-tariff barriers”. These include important standards for consumer protection.

Sugar, fat and salt

The number of people who are overweight or obese has increased dramatically over recent decades. The main reason for this development: when it comes to food, the unhealthy choice is all too often the easy choice.

Misleading product labelling

Fruit yogurts with no fruit, miracle-health products with dangerous side effects: when it comes to packaged foods, misleading information is not the exception but the rule.
