New campaign coalition against agricultural speculation

“We Need Alternative Banks!” – foodwatch has joined forces with other organisations under this slogan to protest against irresponsible banking practices. Their common goal: to remove food speculation from the portfolios of banks.

Members of the campaign coalition “Andere Banken braucht das Land” (“We Need Alternative Banks”) include foodwatch, the Association of Ethical Shareholders, Facing Finance, Living Without Armament and urgewald. The organisations are working together to take action against hunger makers, gamblers and warmongers. One main focus is Deutsche Bank. Germany’s largest bank engages in many ethically and environmentally irresponsible practices – from speculation in agricultural commodities to the financing of cluster munitions.

Protest at the general meeting of Deutsche Bank

The coalition launched the campaign “Stop Deutsche Bank with a share!” The idea: by bringing together a large number of supporters, the coalition wants to put pressure on the financial institution at its annual general meeting on 31 May and press its demands for a responsible business model. Anyone who is interested in supporting the protest is encouraged to purchase a Deutsche Bank share and come to the AGM in Frankfurt. Shareholders who would rather not participate in the AGM can send their admission ticket with a signed authorisation (“transfer of voting rights”) to the campaign coalition.
